EDIT: I decided to reinstall BioShock, so I did it. A little playing with the resolution and the mouse sensitivity, the problems were fixed. Now I'm playing it. It's much more fun on PC.
By the way, I couldn't find Left 4 Dead anywhere. It looks like it sold out, even if there is one on Amazon, it probably won't take any less than 2 weeks for it to arrive. If any of you know someplace I can find it, please let me know. I'm dying to play it.
I recently upgraded my graphics card (to ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP). I did it because I had NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 3 days back and even Painkiller (which is a 2004 game) ran so slow! Normally I'm not a PC gamer though, but the main reason was to be able to play games (which have some good graphics, like Left 4 Dead) online, and I really enjoy online gaming. I couldn't get XBL because my country wouldn't permit it.
First game I played on my new, powerful computer was FEAR (the first game). It ran pretty good, but the game was having some freezing problems (the game would freeze for 1-2 seconds when I turn the camera) so it drove me nuts and I uninstalled it. I can't stand these kind of problems.
I wondered if it was just for FEAR, or if other games would encounter this kind of problems, too. Last christmas, I wanted BioShock for PC (I didn't have a Xbox 360 back then). I knew my graphics card wouldn't permit it but I took a chance. As I excepted, I got the game. But as soon as I installed it, when I ran the game, it just showed an error message and didn't work! I put the game in my shelf and I soon forgot about it's existence. A few months later, I bought an Xbox 360, and BioShock was one of the first games I bought with it. I beat it, and I'm still playing it sometimes, on Xbox 360.
Anyway, I decided to test BioShock on PC (which is a good choice because it obviously has better graphics than FEAR) to see if I would encounter the same problem. As soon as I started the game, I was stunned. It ran perfectly! Perfectly, in the degree that I wasn't expecting. The graphics looked pretty good, too. There were no freezing problems, which meant that the problem was with FEAR.
Even though it was just a test, I really enjoyed playing it on PC. I felt like I really was in the game, not like when I was playing the Xbox 360 version. However, I did encounter some problems. Everytime I was battling splicers, the camera would turn somewhat slow, which was confusing. And because I wasn't used to PC gaming, I was terrible at headshots, and my accuracy was pretty low. I would either shoot them in the belly, or the genitals xD. Also, in the pause menu, there was some blinking in the money indicator, which was annoying.
I was also thinking that if I already have this game on Xbox 360, why was I playing it on PC? Well, they both have ups and downs (except the gameplay), such as
BioShock on PC:
+Feeling like you are in the environment more than you feel on console
+Somewhat easier camera control (even though I'm not used to it)
-Goddamn system requirements
-"Blinking" bugs
BioShock on console:
+Better graphics, with no system problems
+Switching between weapons and plasmids is easier
-Lack of "being in the environment" feeling
I came up to the beginning of Medical Pavilion, but I soon got bored and uninstalled it, mostly because of the problems on the PC, and I think the console version is nuch better in my opinion. It was a fun experience, though. Tomorrow, I'm planing to buy Left 4 Dead (for PC). I have it on console, but I can't play it online since I don't have XBL, and Left 4 Dead is nothing without online play. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have fun with it, if I don't encounter problems, of course.
